Session manager is now saving sessions successfully and presenting them

started to ask me for a keyring password.

I've narrowed this down to the nub.
The specific bug as can thus far be certain:
Nautilus freezes when separate File Operation interrupted with Error
caused by over-long filename.
To recap:
I have Nautilus running in Ubuntu Workspace 1.
I have a large File Operation running in Workspace 4.

The actual size of the files I was 89Gb +/- 1Gb.
I can't be more accurate than that because I permanently deleted a file
of about a gig since the error occurred.

Thanks Jussi. That is correct. The external drive was almost full with
the data on which the tar was attempted. The internal/mainboard drive
had free space.
I'm sorry if I have reported here what might have been more
appropriately posted to the discussion boards.

On second thoughts, it did report an error.
