the MD5, burnt the CD using burnatonce and Nero in windows. I did this
many times with many downloads...
I put the CD in the desktop system, and running the check, I see that

I had a variety of azureus-related problems/crashes, and was able to fix
all of them by first manually installing the Java 6 JRE from the Sun
website (the default package seems to use a 32-bit version which doesn't
work correctly), switching from java-gcj to jre, and then replacing the
Azureus2.jar
Yes, this definitely is an Ubuntu-specific problem. I just downloaded
the RPMs from the OOo site and installed them using Alien. The crashing
no longer occurs when I run a full screen impress presentation and
exit... yay!

My drives are still mapped at /dev/sda. I can't say if the fix has
worked or not because I'm reluctant to turn off the stop_on_shutdown
workaround, but I'm confident that since my drives are still mapped as
sda, it hasn't worked for me either.

Okay, I tried blacklisting libata and then running the command

old IDE driver should make my partitions be recognized by "hdx" rather

I'm by no means an expert when it comes to this stuff... but by skimming
through the link that Tormod posted, it appears that there's in a bug in
the kernel(s) that have to do with our hardware being recognized as
SCSI? (i.e /dev/sd*), which makes sense because my partitions are
recognized as sda1
If we have an IDE drive, is there a way to NOT use libata and to use the
old IDE driver (without having to reinstall)? Perhaps this could serve
as a temporary fix for those with IDE drives instead of SCSI/SATA drives

I'm not exactly a Linux guru, so I'm not exactly sure how I'd blacklist
libata. I tried googling to find out how, but nothing turned up. I've
tried editing /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist with gedit but I don't know what
to add to blacklist it; Is it as simple as writing
blacklist libata

Installing module mgag200 as suggested by Ivo Straka's (approach n. 1) worked

I am not familiar with the language-selector.
However I check the 69-language-selector-zh-*.conf files in 12.04 as well as
latest 14.04, then I find the following difference:
(1) binding="strong" is added in 69-language-selector-zh-cn.conf in Chinese
version 12.04
(2) in live m
I read the source code of language-selector and find that it mainly set
the input method in language selector dialog.
I also try the "im-config -m" in installed 14.04 system with latest ISO and
the result is:
