Fuzzy fonts in edgy's Firefox menu (and openoffice by the way) were
gone, after I chose another option in System -> Preferences -> Fonts
dialog (contrast), don't know why

This bug report helped me a lot, thank you. In Dapper there was indeed a
dependence of lyx-qt on latex-xft-fonts. In Edgy, however, latex-xft-
fonts is only in Recommended and thus not installed by default. But for
a proper use of LyX I would certainly say this IS a dependence.

sudo rm /usr/lib/firefox/plugins/libtotem-complex-plugin.*
is actually enough to get it working. If you want it back you just
reinstall totem-mozilla.

same thing here since gutsy beta, not before, when desktop-effects are
turned on. Bottom panel is missing and is only showing up when I click
on the desktop.

the desktop first in order to make the bottom panel appear. BUT: This
problem wasn't there in tribe-5/6 for me! So what was changed?

LyX 1.5.0 in gutsy should be updated to 1.5.1. There were serious bugs
-- as already reported in #129813 -- like data loss so that the lyx devs
even removed the source from the server shortly after release. Ergo: It
should not be in gutsy, right
It seems that only the windows version was affected. Nevertheless the
list of fixed bugs is huge: http://www.lyx.org/announce/1_5_1.txt
However, no severe bugs a, so importance can be reset now, I guess.

Right, I experienced the same problem. qtrc set a usable default in edgy
but now in feisty beta qt apps are nearly unusable due to ugly motif
style and gigantic fonts. Even installing kdelibs does not help because
the paths are not configured. I think applications like Skype and LyX
etc. are
Very annoying ideed. Well, that means I still have to tell a newbie to
go to the commandline to configure their system, i.e. have their fonts
displayed correctly in FF. Same thing happens when installing kde
applications in gnome.
So, maybe gnome font settings should -- because they cannot set fon
I like to and also have to use unity-2d and one of the most annoying
bugs is the persistently missing titlebar in any of the libreoffice apps
unless you switch between windows. I found the following workaround:
When starting libreoffice with the --nologo option, the titlebar always
seems to appear.
