Confirm this bahaviour, and it also affects me. Upon first login desktop
effects remain active, switching desktop effects (alt-shift-f12) or
logout and login again crashes kdm. Next login will be without deskt
The work-around described in #7 & #4 of course only works if
- you do not switch between DRI modes (eg. ALT-SHIFT-F12)
- you do not have power save enabled to alter desktop effects
otherwise you will lose any unsaved work when you detach you power cord.

Steve, the problem is, it only occurs sometimes after a startup -
hibernate - resume - [ hibernate - resume]* - shutdown cycle, but has
never occurred after a startup - shutdown to me.
I couldn't identify a pattern which would reliably trigger the behavior
of not shutting down after hibernation.
Same on Kubuntu 13.04 latest updates. Works with the GUI tools but not
with the web interface. User to add a printer is in group lp and
lpadmin.

After some more investigations I can come up with this consistent
behaviour:
If I reboot the laptop of with bluetooth enabled, it will come up the
next time working. Working means the status is correctly recognized by
the Kubuntu applet and bluetooth is working.

I see this on a Dell E6410. Makes me think it's not hardware related,
but a configuration glitch in runlevel restauration after hibernate?
BTW, there is a cure for me:
sudo /etc/init.d/bluetooth restart
get's the applet catch the right state and back working.

I can't believe this is still in. Is CUPS unused in enterprise
environments? At our offce we identiy with an account number as to
assign printout costs to department accounts rather than individual
users. I have to set a username for printig, without identifiication,
printouts get silently ignored.

Sorry for #20, this is actually wrong, kdm doesn't crash after switching
desktop effects. But if you want to safely re-login after a logout, you
can choose restart X-Server on the login prompt. The next login will not
crash kdm and desktop effects remain enabled.

I can confirm that this chipset worked at least on Ubuntu 9.10 and
10.04. Not working since 10.10 for ordinary SD cards of any kind and
producer.
Read in a forum it is a timing problem of a read rate at an internal
port or register. Won't be fixed for 10.10. Still a shame to break
running hardware
2.6.35-28 - no change. SD cards mount but directory listing is garbled.

I have been affected by this bug too, but you guys realy have to
consider faulty routers. Bring your laptop to a different AP and try if
this is the reason.
Lot's of routers are equipped with linux firmeware these days and as a
laptop driver may be affected, as much a router may be the reason too.
2.6.35-25 is also not working. Waiting for a kernel update without
action is fruitless btw. And I think nobody of canonical made a
statement about this. So I guess we have to wait for 11.04.

incompatible combination of WiFi Client in g mode vs. WIFI MIMO
