I didn't experienced any high disk I/O and high CPU since upgrading to

@Rocco and @Martin: Are you sure you closed/killed all firefox processes
after upgrading?
@Martin: I can't confirm any crashes on those sites with those flash
videos.

[MASTER] Committing to urlclassifier3.
An official tar ball doesn't have this kind of problems, so if I
understand correctly there are parts of the official Firefox code split
off and are now part of the Ubuntu firefox-gnome-integration. This
package is not installed when you install the firefox meta package. So

@John: I understand the Gnome-integration is there for the last 3
releases, but the bug "Applications tab in preferences is empty" not.
That tab was always there, with or without the gnome-integration.
Off course it's a good idea to make an kde-integration-package, but with

@John: I don't say there are no integration issues with KDE, I only talk
about the applications tab, although in Forefox 2 it has a different
layout. Your screenshot is in Gnome, so I understand the issue is only
under KDE(3).

I can confirm this. Properly because of the disk activity, the CPU is
going to 100%, until you close Firefox (takes also a while before it's
actually closed). It just started yesterday, out of nothing. I tried
everything to find the cause of it:
I'm working in Kubuntu Hardy KDE 3.5.9.

A few more things I tried:
I uninstalled (purged) firefox--gnome-support and xulrunner-gnome-support
I cleaned the cache, history and such
Restarted X
All had no results. Still at 100% CPU and a constant working hard disk.

One more thing:
There is a bug #221009 , that is maybe related.
Also important is the fact that the problems start also when having only
about:blank open and without visiting any website.

I added some info in the duplicate bug #221760. The most important what
I found out is this:
When I let Firefox run with the disk activity and the 100% CPU for
approx. half an hour, all problems are gone. Disk activity stops and CPU
goes back to a normal level. When restarting Firefox, it seems th
Removing urlclassifier3.sqlite only works partly. It indeed stops the
behaviour for a while, but today it started again, but the duration of
the high disk/CPU activity takes not as long as the moment it all
started (max 1 min.). The size of urlclassifier3.sqlite is now 29.7 MB.
