Thank you Hein. My problem wasn't just the open office fonts, it was
also "Konversation" fonts, but the main problem was I was unable to
enable desktop effects and the fix Marius posted above fixed everything.

I'm just new so will try to provide useful info.
Running 8.10 with nvidia GeForce FX 5500. The 173.14.12.1 doesn't seem to work,
it will not allow me to enable desktop effects.
I was able to install the 96.43.09 and am able to enable effects. But I find
when running Konversation all the text will
Marius, that xorg.conf change did the trick, thanks very much for

Just upgraded to 9.10 (2.6.31-11-generic) and noticed the volume hotkeys
didn't work. Did the above ("sudo modprobe lenovo-sl-laptop") and they
now work! Thanks!

I wasn't able to edit my previous post so I'll add my comment here. Whereas the
above fix gave me back my volume buttons, adding it to my /etc/modules slowed
down my computer so badly I was about to go back to Jaunty. Then I remembered
I'd made that change, I removed it and I'm back to original
Same here..hung up on "Loading Software List"
Can't reboot or shut down so need to
sudo killall muon-updater
