I wasn't able to edit my previous post so I'll add my comment here. Whereas the above fix gave me back my volume buttons, adding it to my /etc/modules slowed down my computer so badly I was about to go back to Jaunty. Then I remembered I'd made that change, I removed it and I'm back to original speed - so I'm still hoping for a fix in updates. Thanks
