I believe it depends on the BIOS version you have. Mine is 301 and they don't work, with edgy (or dapper, I don't remember) they used to work, but since I updated the BIOS they stopped working. acpi_listen doesn't generate any events when brightness keys are pressed, so I don't believe you can fix
