I was running kernel 2.6.27-9.19-generic. I just tried out the current
intrepid-proposed version (2.6.27-11.25-generic) with no change...
Would it be worth it if I tried earlier kernel versions, to see which one
introduced
the problem? I'm not sure where to look for older .deb packages.

Hello,
My ubuntu version is intrepid.
Regarding gvfs-mount: the disc was not mine so I cannot test it at the moment.

polvi: My first sentence was not well phrased. Yes, that command gives
you the name of the availability zone for the current account, but that
can't be easily matched up with the availability zone for a different
account since the names are assigned randomly for each account.

SD/MMC storage that is attached via USB is generally bootable, in the
same manner which USB flash drives are bootable. SD/MMC storage attached
by PCI / PCIe / PCMCIA / CardBus is generally not bootable. Please fix
to allow creation of a startup disk onto SD/MMC media that is attached
via USB.

Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: grub2
Legacy grub contained a very useful routine 'map '
which is missing from Grub2.
A functioning patch has been committed http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html
/grub-devel/2008-08/msg00375.html
The patch needs interested developers to clean-up for Grub2
Correction: I say it has been committed. I meant to say that it has been
posted / reviewed on the developer mailing list, not yet committed.

Confirmed that adding "mkdir -p ${DESTDIR}/var/run" as last line in
/usr/share/initramfs-tools/hooks/watershed allows boot to be successful.
I did notice a non-fatal complaint about the lack of /etc/udev/rules.d/
directory.

Hey everyone,
I was also having this problem with Firefox and Qt4 apps. I'm fairly
sure the problem is gone since switching to the beta nvidia driver
(nvidia-glx-180). Could someone else give this a try too and report
back?
