Similar problem when printing text page (no PDF) from within Firefox.
Pages are printed, but document stays "Processing in the "Print Status".
Using HP Laserjet 6P connected via Jetdirect EX Plus.

Further clarification:
Print queue for the specific printer is empty (System > Administration >
Printing).
However, clicking the printer icon on the top bar, the "Document Print Status
(my jobs)", it still says "Processing".

When I install Ubuntu with English language and Belgium as location, I get
Letter as default in /etc/papersize,
whereas it should be A4 in Europe, independent of the selected language.

The logic to select a particular papersize seems to depend on language,
rather than location.
If I select English language and Belgium as location, /etc/papersize is set to
"Letter".
When I select Dutch language, /etc/papersize is set to A4.

After this morning's updates (24/10), both kernels 2.6.31-9-rt and
2.6.31-14-generic seem to be working on Ubuntustudio 9.10 beta.
Yesterdag 23/10 the kernel 2.6.31-9-rt was still freezing, so last night
something got fixed. Thanks.

Afrer installing Ubuntustudio 9.10-RC, the problem with kernel
2.6.31-9-rt persists; system stalls when network is accessed (Firefox,
System update, freedb access...).
With "nosmp" option, everything is fine and all network access is OK.

Paper size shall be independent of language or locale.
It should be a parameter that can be set by the user, depending on stationery
that is being used in the printer.
There may be a default size, depending on geographical region (normal paper
size sold in that country), but NOT on language.
