Which protocol do you use?
VNC use port 5900 by default.
You can monitor network traffic by using "netstat".
There are other vnc viewer like vinagre or xvnc4viewer, I have never try
(today, I have a single computer).
So you could know if problems comes from network/vnc server or from vnc client.
You need firstly to upgrade to Firefox 3.0.10.
In Edit->Preferences->Advanced->Update, choose automatic update.
This could also protect you from virus.
Or do a manual update.
And load again the web page.

I never used wubi and can not help you.
As a workaround, you could download on Windows-XP the Iso image of
Ubuntu, from ubuntu web site, and better from a P2P torrent, and burn
this Iso into a CD-W.
And then install Ubuntu from this CD. The first step of installation use
very few the network, and

1) I did some research on Google, and Firefox has its own widgets, and do not
use GTK or Qt.
2) Which did you do exactly (and what is the level of Dell technical support) ?
I think point (2) is the most critical. It could mean impossibility to
