Here is my error when I run the modprobe command above. I've also
installed pmount which I found in a googled thread on a forum that said
solved the problem and ran the modprobe command but nothing but this

I actually was coming here to post that I've had this problem since
Hoary (I think, might have been Dapper). It worked on the Live CD of
Dapper but not the installed version.
I think its not a hardware failure but maybe a problem with the
manufacturers setup of the HDD. I've not had the HDD as l
Hoary Hedgehog I'm pretty sure because it worked on the Live CD on
Dapper and I though, hurray its fixed but then I had the problem when I
installed it and have had it with all installed releases since (have not
tried it on a Live CD again though).
