I had wubi installer install ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Herron) on my machine.
I downloaded the intrepid alpha alternative disk.
I booted into wubi linux.
It prompted me to update using the intrepid alternative disk.
It updated almost to the end, but then I got an error.
I wish I coul
when I boot wubi now it shows
initrmfs
and there are only a limited number of commands I can use at this point.
I was trying to mount a drive but was unable to using the normal
mount /dev/sda1 /
command,because the / was already mounted with something.
I tried init 5 but that didn't work either.
By initrmfs I meant initramfs.

Evolution
I now see my emails again, but I don't think it's downloading them, but
thats based on the progress bar not moving.
I would have to spend more time with it to see if its actually downloading
emails without moving the progress bar when I click "send/receive".

I found out the wrong number was in the hd parameter of the menu.lst, instead

Start CCSM and go to General -> Desktop Size. Here:
Horizontal Virtual Size (=4) - is your cube (if equal to 4)
Vertical Virtual Size (=1) - some extra dimensions to the cube, I have no idea
how to use it.

I was changing the settings in Beryl trying to figure out how they made the
video in youtube to get that 3D background picture.
I left the beryl settings manager.
Then some message came about the panel not working.
The word menus in the panel went away
I wish I could remember more details but I
Can I uninstall/reinstall gnome-panel with, for example,
apt-get remove gnome-panel
apt-get install gnome-panel
will that bring back the default menu options?

I tried connecting my sound blaster extigy usb sound card and no sound is
coming out.
I had originally an internal on the motherboard via sound and that apparently
stopped working.
so I tried the extigy and that does not work either.

I got my motherboard sound to work again.
I was playing with the volume control and I am not sure how it started working
again but it did.
But the extigy I still don't know if it can work at all...
