One of the first things I tried to rectify this problem was to disable

I placed the command 'sysctl -w net.ipv4.tcp_timestamps=0' in
/etc/init.d/rc.local, rebooted, and as of right now everything is fine.
No connection problems. But for a novice this might be a bit of a
problem to do. Isn't there a way to include this command in the Intrepid
final release by default?
Forest,
Actually, I tried it at '/etc/sysctl.conf' by adding
'net.ipv4.tcp_timestamps=0' suggested in the link above but it didn't work.
Placing `sysctl -w net.ipv4.tcp_timestamps=0` within '/etc/init.d/rc.local'
worked for me.
BTW, I had the same problem in Fedora 10. I would expect this would

It's the 2.6.27 kernel that's the problem. Yesterday I tried Fedora 10,
which uses the 2.6.27-* kernel, and had the same problem, but, just like
in Ubuntu, if you install firestarter (I downloaded a copy and saved it
before I installed Fedora) internet surfing is fine. Strange.
