I have 3 computers now running 9.04, an IBM Thinkpad, a Compaq Presario
A900, and an HP Desktop. Previously, running Ubuntu 7.10, and 8.10 I was
able to make use of my external USB hard drives on each of these
systems. I have 10 external drives, all formatted NTFS, with sizes of
(1) 30GB, (1) 60GB,

similar to mine, and it stated that a patch was required in /etc/modules adding
usb_storage to be able to mount an external drive.
Checking my /etc/modules I found it to contain loop and lp, but no usb_storage.

Last night I thought I had found a way to get around the problem mounting USB
hard drives, and went one step further. I took one of my 500GB drives and
formatted it ext3. I then found it would mount on each of my 3 systems, but

I have been experimenting some more, and seem to have one 500GB drive
formatted ext3 which looks like it mounts, as I can see an entry in
/media/.hal-mtab and a directory created /media/wd500gbA, which is the
drives label name, but no icon appears on the Desktop. Memory sticks
always mount with an

random and crashed at the 5th letter.
Next I disabled all extensions, restarted firefox, and was able to type only 4
letters before a crash occurred.

drive. I'm asked for a keyring password, but then fail to ever make a

I can't disable the screensaver in Mplayer or VLC. There appears to be a
separate bug report on VLC that gave me the impression the problem only
affected VLC, but in my case the problem did not exist in either player under
9.04 and does on both my PC's now upgraded to 9.10 affecting both VLC and

I'm curious, my IBM ThinkPad has no Xorg.conf file in /etc/X11, and none of my
systems running 9.04 or 7.04 have an Xorg.conf file either. I just finished
upgrading an HP Desktop to 9.10 and it had no Xorg.conf file previous or after
the upgrade.
Should the 9.10 upgrade be creating an Xorg.conf

Same here, both Totem and VLC fail to play videos off my NAS drive, and
Totem cannot be killed but VLC can be killed but remains shown as a
zombie. The NAS drive cannot be unmounted as it shows in use by Tot

Previously when I mounted an NAS drive I had an entry in /home/$USER/.gvfs
showing the content. After installing Mint 14 /home/$USER/.gvfs no longer shows
the NAS drive connected, but instead I find it appears in both
/run/user/$USER/
Looking at synaptic in Mint 14, I found "cifs-utils" is already
installed and I believe it only provides another method of mounting an
external drive in addition to gvfs, but I'm hoping the problem with gvfs
will be fixed soon.

Upgraded to Mint 13 and the wireless no longer works at all. In fact Fn
F5 which used to turn it on and off with a light lit/unlit displaying
the state never lights up no matter how often I reboot or press the Fn
F5 keys.
The only Internet access I have/had when using that computer is via
wireles

The latest dcraw supports the Canon SX30, but the latest version of
ufraw available in synaptic is based on an older version of dcraw.
Would installing libraw-bin, which synaptic shows to be version

dcraw 9.12 is the current version, and supports the cameras we are
using, but is still not available in ubuntu. Does an up to date version
of dcraw have to be provided by Debian for it to be made available in
ubuntu? Should we be directing our complaints elsewhere?
