I think I have managed to fix my problem at least.
I had entire flash disk volume /dev/sdb formatted (as FAT32) as a partition
(probably not a very thing to do?) Now I've created a partition (eg /dev/sdb1)
inside it, formatted it (as FAT32 again) and now usb-creator seems to be happy.

of the camera correctly, and even imports the thumbnails from the camera

As I've wrote, I tried looking into this myself. This is FAR from trivial.
Nautilus source isn't the cleanest code on earth, especially that DnD part.
There exists and old patch to add XdndDirectSave to nautilus, but it's just too
old
I have attached the screenshot of the problem.
It somehow affects QT4 in the same way (at least on Gnome desktop).
Also, changing hinting in Appearance-> Fonts doesn't change the
appearance of gnome-terminal fonts, you may set even Monochrome, font
still remains the same blurry

Howto reproduce: create a new user, and add another keyboard layout (lets say
Lithuanian for example). Add keyboard indicator applet.
Reboot.
When switching, you will see ? instead of Ltu, and (null) in the
tooltip, like Marc described.

For me image thumbnailing seems to work (not sure if always), but PDF
thumbnailing always fails, evince-thumbnailer process just spawns and does
nothing, using 0% of CPU.

Default only has sense when you have checked "separate layout for each window".
It is the default layout for newly appearing windows. If you have global layout
(like I see you do), you start your session with the language first in the list
(USA in your case), that's it.
Maybe it's a minor issue
Still reproducible with 2.6.24-8 kernel and latest updates of today (02

Do you have any ideas how should I debug this problem or find any
relevant information?
