I think I have managed to fix my problem at least. I had entire flash disk volume /dev/sdb formatted (as FAT32) as a partition (probably not a very thing to do?) Now I've created a partition (eg /dev/sdb1) inside it, formatted it (as FAT32 again) and now usb-creator seems to be happy. -- USB st

Personally, I'm quite sure it is a gThumb issue. gThumb shows the model of the camera correctly, and even imports the thumbnails from the camera correctly beneath this weird error dialog.
