I have run into the exact same problem. Just in case it could play a
role, my laptop is a Thinkpad t60p running the amd64 version of ubuntu.

I had a guess that i broke pidgin by installing the newer one from getdeb
when the ubuntu one was broken (bugs) but i've reinstalled, removed and
installed all the things related again and again... it didn't make any
sense now I've learned a couple of new t
I am experiencing exactly the same problem here with Gutsy. Hibernate
works under KDE3 (configured thanks to guidance-power-manager). Under
KDE4, it does not work automatically, however when I make a "echo mem >
/sys/power/state", it works perfectly fine.
I am also unable to configure the processo
Why does it always say I have a new update for VMware Player version
1:2.0.2-1~ppa5 to 1:2.0.2-1~ppa5 (same version). If I update, nothing
gets downloaded, it reinstalls VMware Player and keeps saying I have a
new update. Anyone care to explain? I'm using the repository posted
above.

Before issuing these 2 commands, I was getting roughly 1-2 load cycles per
minute when the laptop sat idle:
killall -9 evolution-data-server-1.12
killall -9 evolution-exchange-storage
Now, when I'm issuing sudo smartctl -A /dev/sda after a long period of
idling, I only get an increase of 1 load c
I'm experiencing the same problem with a Dell Inspiron 6400/E1505 (where
scripts don't get executed on reboot on battery or resume), and on a
Dell Latitude D630 (scripts DO get executed when booting on battery, but
don't get executed on resume).

I've managed to trick Ubuntu 7.10 to activate batttery mode (laptop mode
and all the scripts) by doing this

Okay scrap what I said earlier.
I read msrgi's fix and it does work. I'll post clearer instructions on
how to do it.
Open a terminal (Accessories -> Terminal) and type:
sudo gedit /etc/acpi/power.sh
(you can replace gedit with your favourite text editor). It will ask for your
password so type

Also I've noticed that unplugging then re-plugging the power cord causes
my wireless adapter (Intel 3945 with iwl3945) to act weird: when I
normally download a torrent file, pinging the gateway results in 10-50
ms replies; after doing the unplug-plug sequence, pings go to 1000-1200
ms and stay ther

Actually, everything stated above happens without the need to re-attach
the power cord. Simply detaching it is enough to cause everything
described earlier. Re-attaching it doesn't change anything back to the
way it was before it was disconnected.
