I can't reproduce this in Epiphany, but it still exists in Galeon.
Galeon is not dead (yet), it is just in maintenance mode. They still
release bugfix and Mozilla compatibility releases from time to time.

Ante, yes this is what I had in mind. I am not able to make the uid or
gid options to work in Ubuntu 7.04. This problem is documented in the

The man page says that uid= and gid= are ignored by the cifs driver when
connecting to a server that supports unix permissions. When you were
testing, were you connecting to a windows or a *nix box? In my testing,
I was trying to connect to a server running feisty, which does support
the permission
IMHO the Debian bug report was prematurely closed. Cifs should be able
to be mounted just like any other FS. So if I have a cifs entry in fstab
with the option 'users', I should be able to mount/umount as a normal
user, regardless of who owns the mount point. That is how it works with
other filesys

Confirmed on Feisty with two different drives, an NEC ND-6650A and an
Optiarc AD-5540A. The disc is ejected after burning, then the "Internal
error: Verification job improperly initialised" error comes up. In Edgy,
I would have been asked to re-insert the tray (since it's a non-
motorised tray).

I've tracked it down to the way /etc/init.d/kdm parses
/etc/default/locale. My locale file contains a commented line at the top
which contains the substring LANG=. This is being picked up by
/etc/init.d/kdm instead of the proper line. A fix is attached.

The same thing happens even with the i386 liveCD. Well...similar, this time
around upon execution of shutdown -r now it gets to a point where the
keyboard lights blink and it technically seems to reboot, but doesn't do
much else. The screen goes black, the status bar winds down (as
I am using Edgy and this problem does not exist for me. I have cifs
mounts that use credentials files listed in /etc/fstab.

I am using Edgy, and /proc/fs/cifs/LinuxExtensionsEnabled was already
set to 1 with no intervention from me. Still, I don't have permissions
to write to a cifs share, even after using the uid and gid options. I
don't have this problem when using smbfs instead of cifs to mount the
samba share.

Shouldn't Rosetta indicate that the "Button Label" part should not be
translated? I have seen the same problem in both en_gb and en_au, where
translators maintain the "Button Label" part, only to see it appear in
their applications. There is nothing wrong with what they did - they
just translated t

Confirmed here as well. Running 'XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 nedit' works
for me as well. Unlike Gerv's report, I am using a 24-bit colour depth
but I am using Composite.

It's worse in 9.10 (tested on the netbook-remix release). fuse is
installed by default, but sshfs is not. The GUI error in 9.10 just says
that the sync failed, and the log just has an "Object reference not set
to an instance of an object" error.

responsibility for this) and inconsistently implemented policy.
The problem we face is that different upstreams have different names for
their waste receptacles. To take GNOME and KDE (the largest desktop

"Rubbish Bin" is my personal preference. It feels like an en_GB term,
and it is similar enough to the widely-seen "Recycle Bin" to be easily
understood. However, it does add yet another name to the mix.

I have discovered that with compositing (3D effects) turned on, I can
see the wallpaper and icons on desktop 1 but the others are just plain
black. If I deactivate compositing, I can see the wallpaper on all
desktops but the icons are only shown on desktop 1. This is in Ubuntu
9.04.
