** Summary changed: - Printing fails to printers with names containing brackets + Printing fails to printers with names containing certain characters
** Description changed: Binary package hint: cupsys I've got an Ubuntu Feisty server running cups with printers named Brother_HL-730 and Brother_HL-730_(test). I've configured both identically, so that the only difference is their name (they both print to the same physical printer, using the hl7x0 driver, and I've checked - the config files). Printing to Brother_HL-730 works well. When I print - to Brother_HL-730_(test) I get one page with a couple of lines of + the config files). Printing to "Brother_HL-730" works well. When I print + to "Brother_HL-730_(test)" I get one page with a couple of lines of postscript code at the top and then a continuous stream of blank pages. To recover, I have to turn the printer off, cancel the job and then kill the printing processes on the server. - Renaming Brother_HL-730_(test) to Brother_HL-730_test (i.e. removing the - brackets) solves the problem. + Renaming "Brother_HL-730_(test)" to "Brother_HL-730_test" (i.e. removing + the brackets) solves the problem. + + This problem also affects printers with names containing ampersands (the + "&" character). It doesn't appear to be specific to the driver, because + I've duplicated the problem on my HP Officejet 6110. This problem exists on both Dapper and Feisty. My server doesn't run Gutsy, so I don't know if it is affected. -- Printing fails to printers with names containing certain characters https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/157011 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
