I run a software raid and the "solution" posted by Josh is the only one which
is working in my case.
I have a software raid5 and my root partition is not part of the array.

Tried the above sequence of commands.
Twice.
Did not help.
I even deleted all downloaded files by hand. No success.
I still get the following error message:

cat /proc/mdstat shows that md1 (swap) got stuck at 0% during the
nightly data check of the RAID.
In hope of stopping the sync I called
/usr/share/mdadm/checkarray -x -a
This was a bad idea as this command got stuck
Unable to test upstream kernel as we need the system running for some days
which it still does.
Will a reboot in this state leave me with a broken system ?

Created and attached a small patch that fixes the issue for me. It
applies to any xfce4-settings version starting from
dbd76eb58bd9d7a55de753daa5572ef24867d924 (contained in 4.11.1), up to

I can confirm this bug -- Looks like we have the same laptop and have
the exact same symptoms, Plain vanilla does not indeed work: on boot,
screen changes mode 3 times before settling on 1920x1080 -- then gives
"low graphics mode" dialog on lightdm startup. Must boot with nomodeset
and set mode m
ACK - same here:
iPhone 5s, iOS 7.0.2, Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
FYI: iTunes in a VMWare WIndows 7 on the same machine works fine (after
disconnect from host and connect to VM).
So it is not a hardware issue and can be fixed in software.

why, becaus I have no such thing as Evolution installed.

I can see the same issue on 12.04-1. It seems mtr 0.80(included in
precise 12.04) and also 0.82(included in 12.10) are having this bug.
Running the mtr without report switch won't show lost packets. So it
seems some bug in the reporting code.
