I am confirming I have the same problem with Hardy final.
Shutdown takes a long time... and when I tried
# date && /etc/init.d/gdm stop && date
it takes exactly 30 seconds to stop gdm.
I suppose it has been not caused by NM, because I tried uninstall it,
reboot, and the problem is still here.

Thanks for providing with the links but I was not able to reproduce the
issue. Seems that some update mentioned has solved the original issue.
Now the font changes during boot sequence from custom selected one (and
fixed in initrd) to default and then after console-setup script runs -

This appears in Ubuntu (Gnome) for me. The whole screen goes black, and
the screensaver only fills the upper left 640x480 rectangle of my
1024x768 screen. Interestingly enough, it seems that _sometimes_ the
screensaver switches to fill the entire screen at some point (after
