The TTY problem is still happening - switching to tty1...tty6 with ctl-
alt-Fn results in a screen covered with random colored blocks, and

the 2.6.32-12-generic kernel, and it failed in recovery mode as well

Update from 8.04 LTS to 10.04 LTS alpha-3 has serious problems on AMD K-6 s

While the live CD booted Ok on this system, using an appropriate display
driver and screen resolution, upgrading using the alternate CD and
Internet for module sources resulted in a virtually unbootable system,
and took many hours.

mysql-server packages were missing. I had to reinstall mysql-client and
mysql-server metapackages.

the upgrades, so that I didn't have to change the ~/.ss

I would suggest downloading the boot-only mini-CD image from here:

Here is an xorg.conf file which I used earlier when the issue was that
the boot login screen was too large - this problem was similar to an
earlier bug I reported on the same laptop, running earlier Ubuntu
releases: Bug #296142. With the initial installation of lucid, only the

This is also happening to me when I first log on. I'm attaching an image
of the top right of my screen, after logging on to my Dell 10v netbook.
I'm running the standard Gnome version of Karmic, not a netbook remix.

As someone noted above, I've also observed that removing and re-adding
the notification area will generally restore the proper icons.
I notice that this has been seen in both Karmic and Lucid, by various

The Beta-2 live cd will not boot properly.
First of all, the screen resolution is STILL set wrong initially, so the
screen is cropped to the upper-left 1024x768 corner of a larger
(1600x1200?) screen. I was able to get around this by changing the

That seems to have cured the problem on the system with the Jetway
motherboard. I did get both my custom boot splash and my custom
login-screen splash, though. (Actually I just updated the system with
apt-get after blacklisting the viafb, and the initrd happened to be
rebuilt in the process)
