There is no good way to work around this bug. usbserial doesn't have a
list of ID's in the driver that can be quirked. The only way with the
usbserial driver compiled in is to use the work around documented above
which is not a good solution.

BenC provided me with the 2.6.27-rc5 which is what 2.6.27-3 will be.

Karmic uses grub2 and ESC will no longer work to get to the boot menu.
Step 1 should read:
1. Press and hold the right SHIFT key as soon as you see your BIOS
screen and release when you see the Grub2 boot menu.
3. Select the "kernel" line.
4. At the end of the line, remove "splash" and
@crashsystems most likey its not a bug. gconf remembers your last
setting with was without compiz.
Go to System->Preferences->Appearance->Visual Effects
and select either Normal or Extra and compiz should come up and stay.

I think you hit the archive at the wrong time. This was added to linux-
firmware and removed from linux-firmware-non-free, you got one package
but not the other. Try again and it should correct itself.

I'm not sure what happened, I've had issues since that hang with corrupt
gconf entries, maybe this caused the issue here. I'm closing the bug for
now. If it happens again I'll reopen. thanks for the help.

I asked dtchen to provide a test kernel with the bits in it. Once that
happens we will need @Jerone to test on as many Dell models that he has
access to.
