@Paulo, The Ubuntu Kernel Team does make vanilla kernel packages
available [1] just for that reason. They are called Mainline Builds.
They are vanilla kernel source (no Ubuntu Patches) with the Ubuntu
Config Options set.

@another_sam, PLEASE do not compile your own kernel for testing. In
order to troubleshoot we need a consistent set of variables so please
use the kernel ppa listed below. Instructions are at [2]. Also if you
ever need to compile please do not follow instructions for <insert
random web forum|site here>. Please use the info on the Ubuntu Kernel
Team Knowledge Base pages [3], those pages are actively maintained by
the kernel team.
