I am still seeing this problem in 2018. It is a major problem for me, as
I am missing emails after the connection quietly hangs. Is there any fix
on the horizon?

I hope this will be helpful. Modifying the instructions as mentioned earlier
for the hard link, I did the following:
as root:
# mknod /dev/m500 c 188 1
# chmod 766 /dev/m500
I was then able to use hotsync easily, since /dev/pilot was otherwise
created and deleted over my hard link. The new link d
I repeated the above tests on Bionic on a Qualcomm Centriq processor
with the package
