pretty sure this problem lies somewhere in the dcop server. It seems
that the dcop server is adding extra characters when there are escape
characters in the URI. more specifically, i would guess that the URI is
somehow being escaped twice and only unescaped once. I really don't
want to go messin
since nobody feels like addressing this issue, i decided to do it
myself. While i didn't fix the issue (i simply don't have that kind of
time), i did enough work on it to get things working properly. the bug
is indeed with escaped characters, i believe the URI is corrupted on its
way through the

Just I performed an up update via update-manager, which updated libhal1
amongst other things. Upon reboot, it looked like my problems were
solved, however after another reboot, it went back to the same no
privilege state as before.

Binary package hint: gufw
It would be nice to change the user visible text of gufw that references
"gufw" to be "firewall". For example, the tray icon tool tip says "Gufw
enabled - Deny all". For the average user it would make more sense to
say "Firewall enabled - Deny all".

The alsa-base trick works for me too. It works in both Ubuntu 9.04 and
Xubuntu 9.04. I can get the startup sound in Ubuntu 9.04. I don't have
system sounds enabled in Xubuntu 9.04. My install is also fresh, no
other sound related software has been installed.

Had the same issue mount.nfs: internal error
spent about a day trying different things, turns out our nfs could not
do a reverse lookup on the client's IP. Resolv.conf had an old server
not maintained by us and went away. Added a line for all the hosts that
need nfs on the /etc/hosts of nfs serv

I just noticed this on ubuntu 64bit / jaunty. It seems to be hitting
the integer limit (about 2gig) and then going to zero. If your burn is
big enough (over 4.2 gig) the progress bar resumes again from the start
- and then the burn finishes.
