I tried 5.12 with the patch attached (it makes xscreensaver handle multibyte
chars as multiple single byte chars and adds the debugging from 5.14) and 5.14
unpatched on Natty.
I entered ö€ and got this (i made the debugging be in hex instead of oct):

LANG is already set to de_DE.utf8, and `LC_ALL=de_DE.utf8 xscreensaver ` does

I have a Natty as a VirtualBox-Machine under Jaunty. There was a broken
virtualbox-x11-guest-utils package in Natty which made the virtual
machine simply turn off on X11 start. The grub menu didn't appear by
itself. I reported the problem but was told that Jaunty is no longer

No, that didn't help.
Other icon themes do work and Dropline Neu also works in some places,
for example Firefoxs back and forward buttons. The file open dialog of
Firefox has the icons of GNOME-theme, xfapplet-settings has Dropline Neu
icons.
I restarted, but it didn't help.

I tried to install from Xubuntu Natty Alpha 2 Desktop CD with following
partitions using Virtualbox:
/dev/sda1 on / btrfs (around 5GB)
/dev/sda2 on swap (around 300MB)
It tells me the boot loader can't be installed on /dev/sda and asks me what to
do. I can choose:

On my Jaunty install grub shows on start up a message "press ESC to
enter GRUB menu" with a countdown of 3 sec. In Natty there is no such
message, I had to google to find out i have to press SHIFT.

I looked at it again, i had installed virtualbox-ose-guest-utils,
virtualbox-ose-guest-dkms and virtualbox-ose-guest-x11. Starting with
SHIFT hold down and booting to failsafeX does work. After removing
virtualbox-ose-guest-x11 the normal boot works too.

I can reproduce this with umlaut 'ö'. Seems to be a problem with chars
higher than 127.

I found the problem. Your code expects one byte per character, but
XLookupString returns an utf-8 character which can have up to 4 bytes. I
patched lock.c to support up to 4 bytes, a diff is attached. Of course
it's just a dirty hack, detection of non-printable characters is
partially disabled, sta

The language files for gimp are named
/usr/share/locale-langpack/de/LC_MESSAGES/gimp20*.
Since plucky, ubuntu ships with GIMP 3 and therefore the files need to be named
gimp30* to be usable.
Currently, GIMP is always in English on plucky.
