The problem with the mushy and indistinct icons is not in their quality,
which is superb by the way, but in the fact that, for the default panel
size, SVG icons are used instead of the 22x22 or 16x16 PNG variants.
I guess this shouldn't be to hard to fix, and is also a big usability

I've attached only one screenshot, since it it very easy to spot the
issue in it.
If you look at the "Application, Places, System" menu, or any other
aspect of the GNOME desktop, you can see that the font (DejaVu Sans

I can confirm this problem. I experienced the same symptoms, or rather
