The problem with the mushy and indistinct icons is not in their quality, which is superb by the way, but in the fact that, for the default panel size, SVG icons are used instead of the 22x22 or 16x16 PNG variants.
I guess this shouldn't be to hard to fix, and is also a big usability boost, since it's kind of hard to make out the icon states right now.
