but at very low levels and no level control exists in alsamixer.

issues. When the live cd tries to boot it goes to a /bin/sh: can't
access tty; job control turned off. I was able to get around that by
using the alt-install cd. However then once install I have a broken

Solved.
Install using Alternate CD. Then install kernel 2.6.20-16 and xserver-
xorg-video-intel_2.1.0-1ubuntu1_i386.deb. Edit xorg.conf driver section
to "intel". And sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg.

This blacklisting will certainly effect an untold number of systems.
Not to mention all of the new Dell's with 965 chipsets. Ouch, could be

iwl3945 has been working flawlessly for me. The ipw3945 was causing so
many issues it was worthless for anything more then simple web browsing.
