It does result in a working installation.  The screen fills with brown, grey
stripes and blocks.  Today I did another install this time inserting vga=771
into the boot options and it fixed the problem.  The dialogue screen I was
assuming about is the resolution chooser for x.  The vga=771 works well.  I
didn't have this problem with feisty though so I'm wondering what has
changed.  Thanks.
