The specification may not reflect that, but if the e100 driver works
then you have an e100 chipset and not a gigabit one. The chipsets are

Your BIOS has claimed that the MCFG area is at e000, but has not
reserved that range of memory. As a precaution, the kernel has disabled
MMCONFIG (a mechanism for accessing the extended configuration registers

There's no code in Ubuntu which can change the brightness on HP laptops.
Are you able to manually change the brightness when it automatically
changes? If so, do these changes "stick"?

Hm. I could have sworn I did. Unfortunately they're gone now. The last
thing before the crash was an attempt to do an apt-get update in order
to check for security updates, which failed because the system wasn't on
a network.

No, this is incorrect. That fonts.conf fragment changes the default sans
font to BPG Rioni on all systems, not just Georgian ones. This isn't
acceptable, since the quality of its latin characters is worse than in
the default font. There's a couple of issues here:
1) the fonts.conf fragment is malf
We're currently based on 2.6.17.11
