The monitor spewed out text, nothing out of the ordinary for a
non-quiet boot, then the screen went black like before.
Another thing to note, I can boot the kernel into recovery mode and
everything works fine, as long as I don't start X.

I noticed that, when removing splash, the computer hangs for a minute or two
on "loading hardware drivers"
I have a second integrated graphics card, it is a geforce 4 mx. If I move
the monitor cable to the onboard graphics the screen shows up, and the

selecting the nvidia driver for my fx 5500, and tell my bios to boot

changed to vesa, and card to vesa as well

Upon choosing the proprietary drivers and restarting X, only a black
screen is shown, only fixable by going to the recovery mode kernel in
grub and editing xo
I'm using Ubuntu 7.04, Fiest Fawn

not sure which is the one you're looking for
log1 is the Xorg.0.log file after booting into recovery kernel after
resart from black screen
log2 is the Xorg.0.log.old file in same boot. There were two other
Xorg logs, but they had 9 instead of 0, and one had a .old on the end
