option is there, and selecting it means input and output successfully
goes through pulseaudio, ie appear as streams in the pulseaudio tools.

this gives no read, no write, no execute permission to "others"

through samba cant read them, because they dont have

You set this in system>preferences>sound>sound capture>PulseAudio Sound
Server. The gnome-sound-recorder should then show the "Record from

vlc basically unusable until install vlc-plugin-pulse, then works perfectly, so
makes sense to be a dependency

the kde window decorators as well as what people are used to from
windows and so it should do maximise by default.
problem exist on gutsy and hardy with default settings. ver
confirmed on another computer too, which had no previous audacious
settings

yeah i missed that, but when you say system wide, its still a user specific
setting.
Changing in preferences > sound >device ... all of the options change to pulse
audio is what is required, and should be set by default.
the panel volume control does the right thing, the full volume control doe
from earlier in this thread "There are more that don't work than do
work, if compiz is stable for you just start it with SKIP_CHECKS=yes"
however, couldnt there be some sort of gui for this. when you are in
preferences>appeareance, and choose normal effects etc, couldnt you be
given a warning dial
