Since Intrepid is KDE 4.1 by default it won't be using -kde4 packages.
That means we can go back to the regular package names without the -kde4
endings. :)

Anyway, what happens here is that the cursor changes to this x-shaped crosshair
when you mouse over the main viewing area.
Which cursor theme are you using? Could you see if this happens with a
different cursor theme? (I have the oxygen-cursor-theme installed and in use.)
The adept-notifier component has been moved to the update-notifier-kde package.
It's included in main and should be included by default with the Intrepid beta1
release. (See bug 260484)
Until then you can install it manually.

I installed that fine without any problems. (I had to download 6 dependencies)
Could you uninstall the dependencies. Run gdebi-kde from the terminal, and try
to make it crash again? Having the backtrace is probably the only way anybody
could begin to investigate the crash. If all else fails, appo
