Ok. The method for displaying desktop icons has considerably improved in KDE
4.1, which will be released with Kubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid Ibex) this October.
Instructions for installing the KDE 4.1 beta packages are located at
kubuntu.org if you wish to use them.
