This was the solution for me as I had exactly this problem in Ubuntu
14.04

Hello Serge,
Please cancel this bug report. I am currently using the version 1.4.1-12
from the Ubuntu automatic updates and the problem seems to have been
resolved (somewhere...). I think the main problem is that the Broadcom
driver is not the best.

This bug appears on my 14.04 twin-screen PC running Unity 7.2.3 and my 14.10
laptop running Unity 7.3.1.
So I don't believe it's anything to do with the number of screens.

Here is some info from xwininfo before and after the hidden window is
corrected by wmctrl, hopefully someone can make use of it:

I still see this bug very often (e.g. today) with Software Updater but
with no other program.
I also have two monitor cables, but as I also have two monitors leaving
one unplugged in not a solution for me.

On a new laptop (Lenovo N581) and the latest Ubuntu 64-bit the WiFi
connection stops working when the power supply is disconnected and the
machine is running on its battery. The connection is still active, but
no TCP packet is exchanged with the WiFi network.

It only occurs when Evince has been idle for some time. I go back to the
window and try to scroll down, nothing happens for several seconds and
the window is dimmed, then after a few more seconds it suddenly responds

Possibly solved - just spoke to my Internet provider; they tested the
line and found some errors including DNS problems. So it looks like it
was intermittent hardware problems in my providers network.
