Public bug reported: On a new laptop (Lenovo N581) and the latest Ubuntu 64-bit the WiFi connection stops working when the power supply is disconnected and the machine is running on its battery. The connection is still active, but no TCP packet is exchanged with the WiFi network.
Downgrading pm-utils to 1.3.0-1 solves the problem. If I allow the automatic update to the current version 1.4.1-9 the problem returns. uname -a Linux LTJohn 3.5.0-27-generic #46-Ubuntu SMP Mon Mar 25 19:58:17 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux lsb_release -a No LSB modules are available.
