this is a bug in firefox. its not specific to ubuntu. it happens on mac and windows too. whats happening is the flash app is intercepting the keyboard strokes, so if you press ctrl+w when youre interacting with a flash applet, the keyboard command will be sent to the flash applet, but not firefox.
