I have exactly the same problems as described in the notes above. I'm using the
latest Ubuntu dapper with all updates and the Linux kernel 2.6.15-25.
The notebook is a Dell Latitutde D620 with Intel GMA 950 graphic chipset. The

Since the ubuntu kernel was updated to 2.6.15-26 the system completely crashes
when trying to switch to external screen by typing FN+F8. The cursor can't be
moved, no key is working and I can't switch to console. So the workarrounds are
not work anymore.
It's really strange and unusable
I've tried the Suspend2Disk also with these parameters:
SAVE_VBE_STATE=false
POST_VIDEO=false
No success, it hangs on shutdown with a blank screen :-(
Do you have an idea why it works on your system and not on my? It's the
same laptop and the same graphic chip - strange ...

Fails to resume
As I've allready written in the Email. I've done a fresh Gutsy install.
I've compared your configuration files for xorg.conf and acpi-support, there's
no important difference.
I have no idea why S2Disk is working on your system and not on my :-(

My Nvidia card is a Quadro NVS 110M which is very similar to the GeForce
Go 7300.
Thanks for the hint with the quiet option, I will try it. When using it,
do I see the messages during the suspend process?

I've tried id without the quiet option and it does not help. The screen
is not just black, it's turned off when it suspends to disk. And
somewhere in between it hangs, I don't know why :-(
BTW: I've tested it with the open source nv driver instead of the nvidia
driver - and there the Suspend2Disk
I have the same problem. I think this is a Java bug in the GTK L&F
implementation of Swing. The comboboxes in all other Swing application are
looking fine.
BTW: the error "works" on all GTK+ themes, not just for the Human theme.

Yes, you're probably right. The Netbeans guys haveI passed this bug to
the GTK L&F maintainer in Java Swing. He said that this is a bug in the
GTK library in Ubuntu Gutsy, it can't be fixed in Netbeans or Swing. So
hopefully it will be fixed in Ubuntu.

I've also noted, that sometimes after waking up from Suspend2Disk the
WLAN does not work anymore. Do we need to add the module ipw3945 to the
MODULES section in /etc/default/acpi-support too ?
So the workaround solution is not very reliable :-(

Gutsy Reboot on Resume, nvidia-glx-new and linux
I have the same machine (also a D620 with NVidia) and I have the same problems.
With this workaround (see also bug #146228) Suspend2Ram works most times, but
not always.
Suspend2Disk never works, it fails on shutdown. Does it works for you?

I've found an workaround how Suspend2Disk (Hibernate) works, the
following trick is needed:
Simply start an OpenGL app (I use glxgears) and the suspend / resume
works fine. Funny :-)
This is a known bug at Nvidia and they suggest this workaround in the
documentation.
