Update: Since the ubuntu kernel was updated to 2.6.15-26 the system completely crashes when trying to switch to external screen by typing FN+F8. The cursor can't be moved, no key is working and I can't switch to console. So the workarrounds are not work anymore. It's really strange and unusable now !
