Hi. I have upgraded to the most recent kernel available to me (2.6.27.9)
and the problem still persists. Transferring a large file > 2 GB pretty

This bug is related to bug 318325. I did a clean install of Lucid on
this Acer Aspire 5100 (ATI Radeon Xpress 1100). On initial login the
display is fine. After resume from RAM the screen flickers to the point
the machine is unusable.

Being new to ubuntu, I have no idea whereto look for information. Have
no sound. Hardware is known to work under windows os> not hardware.

Sound works fine under windows so it's not the hardware. No sound or music with
ubuntu.

This is a great example of why Linux is awful for interactive/gui/desktop use.
Ok that it wasn't perfect years ago when I opened it.
But then refusal to improve it in the blindingly obvious way.
I gave up long ago and use Linux only for remote command line use with a wired
network.

I ran slapd in heavy trace mode and it seemed to be complaining about

It does however appear to read the /etc/apt/apt.conf file.
Adding the authentication details there appears to have fixed this issue for me.

I have burnt DVD on Karmic before using the same DVD drive and same DVD brand.

been around since karmic.
