I just randomly started getting this error too.
I've got Ubuntu 7.10 on my Dell Inspiron E1505 (along with Vista) and
just thought since I'm also at 1440x900 there could be some
For me, I had to restart the x server and then everything worked fine.
But mine sounds different, because it would never get past that. It
might be worth a shot though.
