I'm getting the same error on Jaunty, using the rolled-back (Intrepid)
version of the Intel driver (unfortunately, I'm one of those people
whose graphics systems do NOT play nicely with Jaunty's updated Intel
drivers). Anybody have any thoughts as to potential workarounds?

First off, I wanted to confirm that this bug remains firmly in place in 9.04
(running on a Toshiba laptop), and definately poses a major usability
inconvenience to all those affected by it.

I've encountered this problem as well, only in my case the problem
extends to the entire nm-applet menu. All submenus of the dialog (eg,
"More networks") come up entirely blank, and even the items on the main
menu are entirely non-responsive. Logging out/restarting nm-applet
temporarily fixes the

As of Raring (13.04), wpa_supplicant began to be compiled with support
for IBSS_RSN enabled. However, while network-manager allows the user to
initiate a connection to a network using IBSS_RSN, it will not allow the
connection to be finalized. The problem appears to be that
