Scott, it's possible to get the syncdaemon logs? (~/.cache/ubuntuone/log)
Is this on a clean system/fresh install?
As Rodney pointed out, the current startup time isn't much. In my
mahcine (macbook Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz, 2GB RAM) is ~2s. I have a fix that
improves things a bit, in the same machin

This is a know issue with the twisted glib2reactor, which uses the glib
main loop (Syncdaemon requires glib in order to use DBus)
The fix would be to have a non-glib mainloop for python-dbus or fix

metadata.
This version of the client used ~/.cache/ubuntuone/syncdaemon to store
metadata, this was fixed and now the metadata is stored in
~/.local/share/ubuntuone/syncdaemon
