Actually I think Patrick is completely right. This is an Epic fail. I'm now used to it (nearly 20 years of X practising), but newcomers will laugh and flee! But IMHO I think the issue is with the way X selection works. Either gnome / put_your_wm_here drops Xsel and uses its own, dropping copy/past
