This is a real problem in makefiles, causing some builds to fail:

I can confirm this is an issue in MythTV 0.21 as well. It seems to be an
instability between audio channel switching with MythTV 0.21 and PVR-XXX
cards.
The script mentioned above works for the directtv.pl script but can be
modified for others. (Such as the external channel binary)

this is a result of the xorg folks changing the configuration parameters for
evdev.
the new config doesn't want Name or Phys config lines. it wants a "Device"
line,
like so:

I too am seeing this issue, it should also be noted that the FE doesn't
die when this happens, just produces the above crash report. I am using
x86_64 however. Else everything is the same.

I have often run into a situation where we need to express a preference

I'm now using a udev rule to run a script that creates a link
/dev/modprobe.d -> /etc/modprobe.d/arch/`uname -r`. By adding a link
/etc/modprobe.d/running-kernel.d -> /dev/modprobe.d, this solves the
problem pretty well. The advantage of putting the link in /dev is that
/dev is the first writable
