Please use the absolute latest daily-live CD (http://cdimage.ubuntu.com
/daily-live/) and run the installer in debug mode (`ubiquity -d` from a
terminal window), then attach /var/log/syslog, /var/log/partman, and
/var/log/installer/debug to this bug report when the installer crashes
or hangs.

And from the description, I suspect this is indeed bug 328281, which
should be fixed in the version of ubiquity present on the latest DVD.

Oh, of course. Sorry, I completely forgot that the ubiquity build
scripts modify that file.
Just edit /bin/update-dev and tack the following on any calls to udevadm
trigger:

Could you please run the install again in debug mode (`ubiquity -d` in a
terminal window) and use a password that has the symbols you speak of,
but is not your regular password (as it will be copied to the log
files). Once the install crashes, please attach /var/log/syslog and
/var/log/installer/d

My suspicion is that this is a bug that recently disappeared, but if
someone is able to reproduce it on an up-to-date CD, all the better.
