I have also had this experience, and a few others that I think are related to
the openoffice.org-kde package. With the KDE integration installed in the
karmic beta, I cannot add images to Impress slideshows using the menu item. A
dialog comes up and I can select an image, but the dialog blinks (
+1 not fixed. I did the workaround.

I can confirm this effects Precise 12.04.
I was able to somewhat work around this by changing the SASL auth
mechanism from 'pam' to 'rimap' though I have yet to get authentication
working in Roundcube. At lest testsaslauthd succeeds with the rimap
mechanism.

I get this same behavior, but only most of the time (not always).
I don't know if it's related, but KDE System Monitor (Kubuntu) reports
one of my four processors at 100% utilization all the time, but h/top
and even System Monitor's own task list never show any process taking
more than 5% processo
An ammendment to my previous comment, System Monitor shows 100% IO wait,
not specifically utilization.

More precisely, the process consumes 100% of one CPU core. I've got 4,
so it shows as 25% use.
I do not experience this problem with the wireless, but I do when I
disconnect from a VPN connection.

I can get effects to work by disabling functionality checks manually in
kwinrc, all except wobbly windows. It is still quite crash-prone though;
even changing window border styles will crash KWin for me.
