I too have a sony laptop albeit FS790. I noticed that once I log in, all
the synaptics functions don't work (e.g scrolling and the corner
functions). However, the pointer can be moved and the tapping function
works (generic driver maybe?). If I log out of gnome and log in again,
the functions get b

"DOUBLE_CONSOLE_SWITCH" which is set in the /etc/default/acpi-support
file.Set this option to "true" by. The line should look like:

havin' the same problem. I imported all my songs per smb from a NAS and can't
change mp3 tag information. After some seconds all (one file, two files,
multiple files) changes are reset to previous. Can't remember that it works

I'am now using the gutsy alsalib in feisty, and it all seems to work
fine now. Beware you don't get in dependency problems (libc6). I had to
modify libasound2_1.0.14-1ubuntu3_i386.deb to 'hack' it's libc6
dependency, but it appears to be working OK. There's probally an easier
way, but then, i'am no

I had a complete meltdown. When I tried to reload ubuntu 7.10, I discovered
that my ram memory was the reason everything was not working. I have since
changed out the mem and reloaded 7.10. I am not having any problems with the
update manager now.

Issue seems to be solved. I added karmic-proposed to software sources
and updated the system. Don't know which of the updated packets solved
it ... maybe the kernel update to 2.6.31-18-generic.
I can now choose the USB sound card in alsamixer and with
System->Preferences->Sound and the speaker set

Quite some time ago I changed the hostname on my mythbuntu install
(during a major hardware upgrade). hmmm... I did have a problem
during/after the karmic upgrade with my manually set static ip not being
picked up...

Unrelated - Found this bug online - failed to boot - device not found -
used "e" to remove line referring to floppy drive. Booted just fine
after that but have to repeat the procedure upon each cold boot.
